This session would like to gather researchers interested in the effects of economic crises (such as the on-going recession) on the city as a social and spatial environment. In particular we would like to focus on the notion of belonging and on how the recurrent crises of capitalist economy have an effect on citizens. This issue is relevant as the increasingly differentiated city populations (for example, Martinotti talks about citizens, commuters, city users and business-people) become affected in different ways.
