Turku instructions for the Urban Studies Conference.

Conference venue

Publicum building of the University of Turku, Assistentinkatu 7. You can see more detailed halls in the program of the days. Thursday’s evening program takes place in the center of Turku.

Accommodation

The closest hotels to the university area in the center of Turku are Centro and Scandic Julia. Most other hotels in the core are also a short walk away. AirBnb is also available.

Arrival in Turku, directly to Publicum

By train

The terminus of Helsinki’s trains is currently Kupittaa station, from which it is about a 15-minute walk to Publicum for people with good feet.

Trains from Tampere run to Turku’s main railway station, from where it is about a 25-minute walk to Publicum. If you come on a Thursday morning train, take a taxi from the station.

By long-distance bus

When coming from the direction of the capital region and Hämeenlinna, you should get off at the Yliopiston / Hämeentie express bus stop, which is less than a 10-minute walk to Publicum.

Tampere buses run to the main bus station, from where it is about a 15-minute walk to Publicum.

By car

You can approach either from the Helsinki highway, via Assistentinkatu, or from the direction of Hämeentie. Short-term paid parking on Assistant Street is the first area on the left. From the direction of Hämeentie, the last one (closest to Publicum) on the front left. Parking is paid through mobile phone applications (at least EasyPark and eParking).

See the options in the Föli guide or Google Maps. In the buses of Turku, you can pay with a bank or credit card, a separate bus ticket is not needed.

Walking

The walking route from the center of Turku passes through Tuomiokirkkotor and beautiful Piispankatu.
